As broadcasters attempt to address the many challenges in creating compelling football productions they look to technology to enable them to be more innovative without compromising workflows.

Data, both current and Historical, has become an important part of sport. Audiences are beginning to demand the depth of information available on the Internet to enhance their TV experience. Getting this data onto the screen however poses many challenges but generates many opportunities to improve audience understanding.

DeltaTre & Red Bee Media looked at this problem and have created MAGMA Pro Powered by Piero. Along with EVS integration this solution provides a fully integrated system that empowers broadcasters with a simple workflow to fuse data and images in a way that was previously not possible.

  • MAGMA allows the broadcasters to present Graphics in few seconds using the match official data (including tracking) and official graphic style from a variety of templates, available in different sizes up to full-frame and showing match or tournament related data. MAGMA brings a new concept of data navigation thanks to the innovative Producer Tool and enables broadcasters to take advantage of the incredible amount of data available through the official Result system to find in the most efficient way the story to empower post match and other studio programs.
  • Piero provides the outstanding graphics effects that have established them as the Analysis graphics partner of choice for many broadcasters. MAGMA data objects can be added to match action and virtual graphics can illustrate the data showing movements of all the 22 players on the pitch allowing audiences to watch key moments of the game from a new and different 3D perspective.
  • EVS integration enables broadcasters to find the key sequences and exploit the data and virtual graphics quickly and easily.

How it works

The fast and efficient workflow helps broadcasters deliver absorbing key actions, illustrate them and get the final analysis on screen in the shortest possible time.
  • Step 1 – Data is gathered at the stadium using sophisticated Player Tracking technologies. (Goals and Assists, Goal attempts, Set pieces, Fouls and cautions, Off-sides, Time events, Actual Formation, Passing distribution, Players Work rate, Attacking play, Co-ordinates of all players on the pitch).
  • Step 2 - MAGMA identifies patterns & categorizes these & grades them
  • Step 3 – Producers can search the database using a tool to find the story they want to tell and preview graphics from their desktop.
  • Step 4 – The stories can be output as statistics on screen or the data can be fused with the video (Via EVS integration) & fed into Piero.
  • Step 5 - Graphics are automatically created to help commentators tell the story they want to tell.
Graphics templates can be personalized in a broadcasters own language, including non-Latin characters sets and alphabets like Japanese, Arabic, Chinese, Russian etc.

In addition to latest virtual graphics templates, a comprehensive set of match graphics and MAGMA standard graphics templates are available to cover every statistic information need.

Operators are on hand to ensure that the maximum value can be achieved and the final output is delivered as HD or SD SDI Key and Fill.
